Rating 49ers' draft busts By John Ryan Mercury News We were in the office scouring for photographic evidence of Rashaun Woods when someone noted that ``he's the biggest draft bust since Druckenmiller.''
Sadly enough, that's open for so much debate. So we took a look at the 49ers' first-round picks since the Jim Druckenmiller debacle of 1997:
1998: R.W. McQuarters. Became solid CB in Chicago and is still in the league. Coulda had: S Tony Parrish, seven picks later and now a Niner.
1999: Reggie McGrew. According to NFL.com, he made a total of nine tackles for the 49ers, but that seems like an overestimate. Coulda had: Broncos LB Al Wilson, seven picks later.
2000: Julian Peterson and Ahmed Plummer. Can't argue here; they were fine until they got the big money years later.
2001: Andre Carter. For two years, a star in the making.
2002: Mike Rumph. As a cornerback, he's a so-so safety. Coulda had: Steelers G Kendall Simmons, three picks later.
2003: Kwame Harris. Of all the problems a Stanford guy can have . . . the snap count? Coulda had: Chiefs RB Larry Johnson, one pick later. Ouch.
2004: Rashaun Woods. By the first mini-camp, Mike Nolan had dropped him off the depth chart. Coulda had: Patriots TE Ben Watson, one pick later.
2005: Alex Smith. Scary thought: Will we ask this question again in two years?
We have to go with Harris, considering the player they passed up. (But they already had Kevan Barlow, you say? Yeah, well, the Chiefs already had Priest Holmes.) But you could make a case -- unfortunately -- for Woods, McGrew, Rumph or McQuarters.

_________________ In Brock I still trust.

- Niners pick firms to help with stadium design
Tuesday, April 18, 2006
The San Francisco 49ers picked an architecture firm and construction company to help with the preliminary design of a possible new stadium at Candlestick Point.
HNTB Architecture Inc. will provide the planning and design services for a new stadium and Turner Construction and Devcon have been retained for the pre-construction management phase of the project, the team announced Tuesday.
"We are excited to work with such a top-notch team with the demonstrated ability to deliver projects with design excellence, innovation and usability," 49ers spokeswoman Lisa Lang said in a statement.
HNTB designed the Denver Broncos' new stadium and is working on the renovation and seismic retrofit of the University California's Memorial Stadium.
The 49ers also confirmed that the team is looking at new ways to finance its planned new stadium at Candlestick Point without relying on the $100 million in revenue bonds approved by voters in 1997.

_________________ In Brock I still trust.

_________________ In Brock I still trust.

_________________ In Brock I still trust.

_________________ In Brock I still trust.

- 49ers sign Dorsey, Adams to exclusive rights contracts
ASSOCIATED PRESS SANTA CLARA - The San Francisco 49ers signed backup quarterback Ken Dorsey, a Miramonte High School graduate, and safety Mike Adams to contracts for next season Monday.
Dorsey started three games last season, completing 48 of 90 passes for 481 yards and two touchdowns.
Adams played in 14 games last season and led the team with a career-high four interceptions. _________________ In Brock I still trust.

- Dorsey in Danger?
April 25, 2006
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that San Francisco 49ers QB Ken Dorsey will have to fight hard in training camp to make the team’s final roster. Dorsey will need to outplay QB Jesse Palmer, QB Cody Pickett and possibly a veteran acquisition to remain with the team.
Also Terry Jackson is still wide open.
Dorsey dehors! (ça manquait, tiens) _________________ In Brock I still trust.

- More information on the Packers and Javon Walker
Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 07:29:59 PT Source: 49erswebzone.com
According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Green Bay Packers have started taking calls from teams interested in trading for Javon Walker. They have stated in the past that they have no interest in trading the disgruntled wide receiver. However, they are now stating that a trade would only happen if the price were right.
While Schefter reports that the teams most interested are Denver and Philadelphia, he also states that at least three other teams are interested. The 49ers did show some interest in the past but were the ones to back out of a possible trade.
The 49ers no longer possess a second round pick this year and it is unlikely that they would give up one of their 2006 first rounders for Walker. _________________ In Brock I still trust.

...It's feasible that the team would be able to get Walker for their fourth-round pick and maybe a conditional pick in a later round next year. If they are able to swindle away Walker from the Packers for the aforementioned picks, the 49ers would then be able to use the #22 overall pick on a running back such as Minnesota's Laurence Maroney or Memphis' DeAngelo Williams. Either would be fine options to help fill an obvious need.
Although nobody would trade any high picks for Walker, when he's at his best, he's certainly worth the #22 pick...
