1er tour: les Steelers répondent aux questions posées par le départ de Randle El, en draftant 2 WR (dont Holmes, le 1er sélectionné) et Anthony Smith en FS. Smith sera sans doute essentiellement aligné en unités spéciales, mais sa présence garantit un minimum d'émulation en FS, histoire que Ryan Clark ne se la coule pas douce non plus.

Les Steelers ont également profité de leurs 10 choix pour faire quelques paris, surtout au day 2. Willie Colon (G) et Charles Davis (TE plus receveur que bloqueur) et Omar Jacobs ne devraient pas avoir d'impact immédiat. J'espère que Colon fait partie de ces joueurs qui n'ont jamais la reconnaissance qu'ils méritent parce qu'ils jouent dans une petite fac (lineman à Hofstra, y'a mieux pour être vu), mais dont les qualités personnelles rivalisent sans problème avec les autres. C'est possible, les Steelers sont connus pour aller scruter vraiment loin les futurs draftés, y compris pour les choix de 4e-5e tour
Le 7e tour est intéressant. Cedric Humes est un coureur lourd (6'1 233) qui a partagé son temps de jeu universitaire entre FB et RB. Il ne nous coute pas grand chose et s'il peut intégrer l'équipe, il garantira une rotation et la présence d'un poids en situation de short yardage, même si Staley devait encore se blesser.
Du coup, avec la cuvée 2006, on vient d'assurer pour quelques années la profondeur chez les WR (2 jeunes receveurs, ça évite de se retrouver à cours), et on complète bien le corps de RB (Parker, Staley, Haynes, Humes, plus Kreider en pur FB).

Je suis content de voir Cowher pense comme ça. Je m'étais fait le même type de comparaison entre l'utilisation de Polamalu et celle qui est faite de Sean Taylor, et je me disais que finalement, Clark pourrait s'acclimater plus vite que prévu. Il sera chargé de beaucoup de cover 3 pendant que Taz ira dévaster la ligne de scrim. Hope s'était plutôt bien adapté ça, et je craignais qu'un nouveau venu soit déstabilisé par ce rôle de "compensation". Mais je constate que Clark n'a pas été choisi par hasard, ça fait plaisir...

J'ai maté quelques vidéos sur notre cuvée 2006, et après ce visionnage, j'attends avec impatience de voir les performances de Willie Reid (WR 3e tour). C'était un spécialiste des retours de coup de pied, et il me fait franchement penser à Chad Morton avec ses petites jambes qui tricotent.

Je me suis également rendu compte qu'Omar Jacobs (QB, 5e tour) était un bon prospect, qui se situait juste après les quelques QB sélectionnés au 1er tour. Il y a toujours des QB draftés haut parce qu'on les VOIT performer dans une grosse fac et que ce sont des QB. En terme de talent pur, ils ne mériteraient pas forcément d'être choisis si haut. Omar Jacobs a été aussi productif sinon plus que n'importe qui, mais à Bowling Green. Certains mockeurs le côtaient assez haut. On lui reproche une technique de lancer un peu lente. Moi, j'apprécie le fait qu'en dépit de ses qualités physiques, il ne cherchait pas à courir en permanence, mais faisait l'effort de rester dans la poche pour trouver ses receveurs. J'aime cette mentalité. Physique, mais QB avant tout. Il me fait d'ailleurs penser à Roethlisberger. Donc, Jacobs en 3e QB, j'applaudis. Il apprendra derrière Roethlis et Batch, mais va vite devenir notre remplaçant quand Batch sera trop vieux.

Pour les autres, les highlights ne montraient rien d'autre que des... highlights, que l'on pourrait monter avec n'importe quel joueur je suppose.

Porter has long been one of the NFL's most outspoken players on a variety of subjects. He created a stir before the Super Bowl by saying Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens was "soft" and didn't pose a problem for the Steelers.

Stevens scored Seattle's only touchdown in the Steelers' 21-10 victory, but dropped several passes during a mostly ineffective day by the Seahawks' offense.

Globalement, je trouve le backfield assez équilibré et très talentueux.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (May 27, 2006) -- Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes was arrested for disorderly conduct at a hotel in South Beach, police said.

Holmes was arrested Friday night. He was released from jail after he signed a promissory note to appear in court to be arraigned, Miami Beach police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said.

The events leading to Holmes' arrest weren't released by police.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said he didn't know about the arrest and couldn't immediately comment on it. Holmes was the Steelers' first-round pick in April out of Ohio State.

Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle crash


PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured in a motorcycle crash Monday morning and taken to a hospital.

"He was alert and conscious," said Ernie Roman, shift commander for the Allegheny County emergency service.


Steelers Dave Lockett, outside Mercy Hospital, confirmed the accident but did not provide additional details.

In only his second year in the NFL, Roethlisberger helped guide the Steelers to the Super Bowl championship last season.

Calls to Roethlisberger's agent, Leigh Steinberg, were not immediately returned.

The 24-year-old Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet when riding his motorcycle. He has pointed out Pennsylvania's 35-year-old state law requiring helmets to be worn was amended to make helmets optional.

In May 2005, Steelers coach Bill Cowher lectured Roethlisberger on the dangers of riding without a helmet.

"He talked about being a risk-taker and I'm not really a risk-taker. I'm pretty conservative and laid back, but the big thing is to just be careful," Roethlisberger said at the time. "I'll just continue to be careful. I told him we don't ever ride alone, we always ride in a group of people, and I think it makes it even more safe."

Mais bon, dans l'ensemble, la plupart laissent de côté l'aspect sportif et se préoccupent avant tout de la santé de l'homme.

On ne parlera que du casque qu'il ne portait pas, mais d'après ce que j'ai lu, je crois que le problème avant tout est qu'il s'est fait griller la priorité. Sans casque, il y aura certainement des conséquences plus importantes en terme de blessures. Espérons tout de même qu'à l'avenir il pourra simplement se souvenir de cet accident comme d'une bonne leçon, sans autre préjudice grave.

Rien de "sérieux" au sens médical. Maintenant, sera-t-il prêt en septembre... En principe, il pourrait être sur pied pour les training camps fin juillet, mais bon, il va bouffer de la soupe par tuyaux pendant 1 mois et demi. Je le vois mal être en forme dans ces conditions.
