Mock Draft 2023 : les Picks

On est Vendredi, je me permets donc d'ouvrir la Draft,
avec un risque de la planter dès le premier choix cette année.

CJ STROUD - QB - Ohio State

Avec le premier choix, je pars donc sur le QB d'Ohio State.
Alors, oui, tout le monde dit que Young est meilleur et j'ai hésité aussi.
Mais quand je vois ce qui est arrivé à Tua à Miami, je me dis que je préfère un QB à 1,93m et 100 kg (le gabarit de Joe Burrow par exemple) à une crevette de 1,80m qui jouera sa vie à chaque jeu en NFL.
En plus, Stroud à la différence des QB d'Ohio State précédents (Haskins, Fields) est un pur passeur et pas un coureur avant tout. Un bon point pour moi, sachant que c'est pas non plus Brady et qu'il a physiquement les armes pour aussi jouer au sol.
A Carolina, il va finalement arriver dans une attaque pas si mauvaise avec un OLine correcte (mais pas hermétique non plus donc son gabarit aidera aussi), l'apport de Thielen en WR et Sanders en RB. 
Et un Coach qui a débuté sa carrière en faisant jouer Andrew Luck.

Malgré sa taille, les Texans prennent celui que beaucoup voient comme le QB#1 de cette draft.
Pas de surprise qu'il parte en #2.

Vu que personne a Arizona.

On va faire succinct, en disant qu'ils prennent peut être le meilleur joueur de la draft avec EDGE Will Anderson (Alabama).

Il va concurrencer les Watt ou Bosa

Les Seahawks ont besoin de Pass Rush.Avec le retour de Wagner et l'apport de Julian Love, en plus d'Adams, le coeur de la défense est stabilisé. Wilson semble plus exter que Jalen Carter et sans souci de comportements...

With the 7th pick, Las Vegas Raiders selects : CB Devon Witherspoon (Illinois)



Overview
Witherspoon is a fun watch but requires evaluators to carefully consider his strengths and weaknesses relative to scheme. He plays with anticipation, route feel and a consistent sense of urgency to prevent catches, as displayed by his high number of pass breakups. He plays with ballhawking eyes and good balance from zone coverage and is very aggressive tackling both after the catch and in run support. There are snaps where he gets behind and stays behind due to a lack of premium speed and closing burst, so he might require help over the top or a more zone-oriented scheme to help him shine. The playmaking mentality and traits give him a solid chance to become a CB2 in the league.
Strengths

   Allowed completion rate of just 34.9% in 2022, per PFF.
   Impressive route recognition and trigger on the throw.
   Eyes are probing from off coverages.
   Well-balanced defending high/low route concepts from zone.
   Instinctive with 14 pass breakups in 2022.
   Takes ball-side angles to disrupt the catch point.
   Zeroes in on receiver’s hands on deep throws.
   Physical with a striker’s mentality in run support and as tackler versus the pass.

Weaknesses

   Can be jab-stepped off-balance by release fakes.
   Coverage is very handsy after the first five yards.
   Sluggish to transition hips and match route breaks from his backpedal.
   Top-end speed could be an issue at the next level.
   Lacks juice to make up the distance when he gets behind.
   Will bite hard on play-action and double moves.

With the 8th pick, Atlanta Falcons selects EDGE Myles Murphy (Clemson)



Overview
Murphy has excellent size/traits and has been consistently productive in impact categories for three straight years. He plays with a plus motor and good first-step quickness, but his game isn’t really twitchy or explosive. He has finishing talent when he’s inside the pocket, but he needs to vary his rush angles and find an effective inside counter, as NFL tackles will be expecting his long-arm bull-rush technique. Murphy’s length and post-up strength could provide the scheme and positional versatility that puts him on every draft board. The traits and upside are there, but his skill level needs a boost to push the ceiling higher.
Strengths

Gets up the rush track with sudden first step.
Long-arm rush move to run tackle into the pocket.

Average body control through contact.
Below average short-area agility as tackler.
Takes him time getting to top speed in pursuit.

With the 10th pick, Philadelphia Eagles selects S Brian Branch (Alabama)



Overview
Plug-and-play defensive back with every ingredient necessary to become a high-performing starter early in his career. Branch has primarily handled nickel coverage at Alabama but has the range and instincts for single-high or split safety looks. He’s quick, fast and strong with the ability to match up with shifty slots, bigger possession receivers and pass-catching tight ends. He’s urgent and has a mind for the game. He takes playmaking angles into the throwing lane but does have a tendency to play it a little safe from off-man coverage. There are areas where he can improve but no real weaknesses, which could make him one of the safest picks in the draft.
Strengths

Football intelligence is through the roof.
Has range and instincts to play single-high safety.
Fast, fluid and very strong for his size.
Pedals and transitions with smooth, agile feet.
Able to mirror and match patterns from off-man.

Si Philly avait pas signé RB Penny, j'aurais pris RB Robinson, avec Hurts et AJ Brown, ca aurait été une attaque explosive.

Peu de manque à Philly, mais certains postes vieillissants.

Je pense que Philly risque de bouger, soit pour aller chercher un top player, soit pour trade down, car s'ils ont pas de titulaire en #10, autant récupérer des picks et prendre un joueur à faire progresser pendant 1 an.

Le poste de S est un des postes à combler, Branch est le meilleur dispo, mais pareil, ils peuvent l'avoir en descendant de 4-5 picks

Overview
Ascending cornerback combining traits and above average play strength that create a clear definition of who he is as a player. He can reroute the release and has the frame to close catch windows against big receivers in press-man or Cover 2 looks. Delayed transitions and sluggish change of direction put him in conflict in off coverages, so teams must pay attention to matchups and scheme in order to avoid a field full of yellow laundry. There is work to be done to improve tackle consistency in the run game, but he finishes tackles after a catch. Porter has scheme limitations, but he also has CB1 potential with more work and if utilized properly.

Father is a former Pro Bowler and was an undisputed alpha during his playing career.
The most physical reroutes in this year’s draft.

Winfield Jr, Surtain Jr, les fils d'ancien pro fonctionnent pas trop mal dernièrement, le poste de CB peut être un besoin pour les Pats, et il y a fort à parier que le fils d'un All-Pro player peut être un plus pour Belichick

With the 15th pick, Green bay Packers selects WR Quentin Johnston (TCU)



Overview
Height-weight-speed prospect with the physical traits and upside that might have teams willing to overlook some of his inconsistencies on tape. Johnston is a long-striding vertical threat who can open up and separate when allowed to keep his feet moving in space. His elevation and catch radius create an expansive target area down the field, but his overall success rate on contested catches is way lower than it should be for a receiver of his size. Johnston needs a specific route tree, but will improve in that area at the next level. He will benefit from a more accurate deep-ball quarterback, but still feels more like a good WR2 than a high-volume WR1.

   Desired blend of size, length and speed outside.
   Consistent intensity in drive phase, regardless of route depth.
   Long strides allow him to eat into coverage cushions quickly.
   Separation speed shows up across the hashes.
   Should see more touchdown opportunities with a more accurate quarterback.

The Washington Commanderedskins select :

Dalton Kincaid - TE - Utah
6'4 - 246Lbs


Move tight end whose premium talent as a pass-catcher will be the primary focus for evaluators. Kincaid is a fluid route runner with the athleticism and play speed to create mismatches against lesser coverage. Impeccable ball skills and sticky hands allow him to tilt 50/50 contested throws in his favor. He lacks the play strength and technique to work in-line, but can handle some positional blocking in space from time to time. Kincaid can manage a more extended route tree, allowing calculating play-callers to open up the entire field and stress coverages. He will need to acclimate to a more physical/athletic brand of coverage, but should blossom into a weapon.

Il y a besoin d'une cible crédible pour libérer Dotson et surtout McLaurin. Les besoins sont criants aussi en CB, mais ceux qui restent seraient des Reaches à ce niveau-là.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Select :

Paris Johnson - LT - Ohio State
6'6 - 313 Lbs



Long, athletic tackle in need of additional technique work but possessing the traits to become a long-time starter on the left side. Johnson is still filling out his frame and he should get stronger. He’s much better as a move blocker than man blocker but he can bridge that gap with more coaching. He’s loose and quick in pass protection but will need to add core strength and get better with inside hands to prevent edge defenders from bypassing his anchor. Johnson’s athletic tools and position versatility are advantageous but the going could be a little bumpy early on before he settles in.

Les Steelers doivent laisser un peu plus de temps à Pickett pour lire ses cibles. Johnson serait une bonne affaire à ce niveau de la draft.

With the 19th pick, Tampa Bay Buccaneers selects OT Broderick Jones (Georgia)



Overview
Ultra-athletic tackle prospect with the size, length and potential to develop into a plus starter on the left side. Jones’ frame and technique both are in the developmental phase. His entry into block fits can be a little disjointed. He needs to improve his punch accuracy and timing to make the most of his length in pass protection. Jones is very talented at working into space and landing a block to help spring the running game. He has the nimble feet to mirror or recover against the rush. Jones isn’t a finished product, but the physical and athletic gifts allow for a projection as a good, long-time starter.
Strengths

Former high school basketball player with premium athletic qualities.
Drives hands into defender with upward strike.
Rips outside hand through pads to corral and move opponent.
Should be able to make all the blocks for zone and power.
Body control to adjust to moving targets.
Has length necessary to improve punch timing.
Recognizes twist attempts quickly.
Possesses loose hips and quick feet for recoveries.

Weaknesses

Less than two full seasons of starting experience at left tackle.
Needs to keep his chin tucked and back flat in protection.
Punch comes from outside angles and is slow to stick the rusher.
Gives early ground when challenged by power rush.
Doesn’t fit up run blocks in one, fluid motion.
Will need to improve play strength as a pro.
Tends to duck head and lose sight into first contact.



Beaucoup de choix, Tampa a beaucoup de needs : RB, TE, OT, DT, EDGE, DB
On parle beaucoup de OT Wright poru Tampa, mais il est RT, et ela impliquerait de glisser Wirfs en LT.
Wirfs est l'un des 3 meilleurs RT de la ligue, à voir si on risque pas de perdre en le bougeant, c'est pour çà que de voir Jones tomber jusque là, ca règle des problèmes.

Pour moi le choix de Tampa risque de se jouer entre RB Bijan Robinson, un OT, un EDGE et DB Brian Branch

Washington projects as an in-line traditional Y tight end. He’s an outstanding asset on running downs due to his blocking prowess. Washington works in both gap and zone-blocking schemes. He possesses upside as a pass-catcher with more opportunities and targets. I believe to get the best out of him, his routes should be attacking the seams and across the middle of the field off hard play-action. He is a zone-beater that can find soft spots to settle into. Washington does bring outstanding potential in the red zone as a blocker and receiver. He has the potential to develop into a reliable passing option and TE1 for an offense, but a TE2 at worst.

Et puis un gars qui s'appelle Washington doit jouer dans l'Etat de Washington. Si Joe Montana avait appliqué ce principe, il aurait fait du rodeo, et tout le monde était content (à Cincinnati en tout cas...).

Overview
Burly but athletic interior tackle who plays with a strong desire to get past the man in front of him. Bresee rarely gets caught up in long block engagements and possesses a deep anchor to battle double teams. He operates with subtle hand fighting that helps puts pressure on blockers but currently lacks the rush sophistication and shed technique to make more plays in the backfield. If he can stay healthy and gain much-needed experience, Bresee should continue to progress at his position and become a good run defender with an ability to disrupt the pocket within his first few NFL seasons.

Mais 5.4yds/run accordés l'an dernier, il faut redominer la LOS

Plusieurs choix possibles pour les Vikings ici,
le plus évident un défenseur : un CB voire un LB comme Drew Sanders avec le départ de Kendricks,
mais le Purple n'a pasde second tour, alors je pars sur un WR pour remplacer Thielen et permettre à Justin Jefferson de ne pas être le seul attaquant à surveiller.
Avec le duo Jefferson/Addison, Cousins a de quoi lancer.

Avec le 24th pick , les Jacksonville Jaguars choisissent :

Summary:

O'Cyrus Torrence is a huge, wide-bodied guard with plus athleticism for a blocker his size. His athleticism allows him to be of utility at the second level and on any type of blocks that involve lateral quickness. He has quality second-level accuracy, too. He needs to play with a tick more patience, but his body type, strength, and athleticism make him a very appealing guard prospect.
