With the First Overall Pick, the Carolina Panthers select :

Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson



Je ne crois pas à la débilité totale du staff des Panthers pour prendre une des chèvres de QB de la draft, leurs lacunes sont trop voyantes.
Bowers est un safe pick classique, un mec qui fait pas de vagues, efficace, un pass rusher qui peut succéder à Peppers, les Panthers ont déjà drafté un mec comme lui, ils ont le mode d'emploi. Everett Brown était bien un énorme steal au deuxième tour de 2009. Ils veulent continuer de donner une chance à Jimmy Clausen. En plus Ron Rivera est le coach, l'historique de leurs premiers choix reste traditionnel.

Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama



On sait que John Fox aime Drafter des D-Line (Julius Peppers, Everette Brown), Denver en a bien besoin avec seulement 23 sacks la saison dernière... Si Champ n'avait pas été re-signé, j'aurais porté mon choix sur le très bon Patrick Peterson, mais (Heureusement), Champ is back !
Comme je l'ai dit, 23 sacks c'est beaucoup trop peu, Dareus n'est pas Suh, mais il a été très impressionnant au Combine, avec le gros Jamal à ses côtés sur une défense en 4-3, la ligne pourrait ressembler à quelque chose, et, espérons-le, choper du QB.

Cam Newton, QB from the university of Auburn




Il y a plusieurs choses qui motivent mon choix, d'abord le besoin de quaterback du côté des Bills, il faut être honnête, Ryan Fitzpatrick il fera gagner personne avant un bon moment. Reste à savoir si les Bills se voient attendre le second tour et prèféreraient un Nick Fairley par exemple ou un Patrick Peterson.

La seule chose qui est sure c'est que les Bills drafteront un QB, leur GM Buddy Nix a annoncé qu'il voulait un QB et qu'il adorait Newton. L'an dernier il avait plus ou moins annoncé qu'il prendrait Spiller déjà.

Le besoin d'un QB et les déclarations du GM me laissent donc penser que les Bills drafteront Cam Newton.

Pas tant besoin d'un WR que ça. J'espère qu'on va laisser partir Chad-OchoJohnsonInsertNewSponsorNameHere. Shipley, Caldwell, Gresham et meme Jerome Simpson ont brillé sans eux.

Autant prendre le meilleur athlète restant dans cette configuration. Et ça nous permet de voir venir. Johnathan Joseph est Free Agent cette saison. Soit on le re-signe (peu probable) et Peterson peut faire ses armes en Safety, ce que j'aimerais assez, soit on garde un très bon duo de CBs avec lui et Leon Hall.

Von Miller, OLB - Texas A&M


Les Cards ne veulent pas drafter un QB, Wisenhunt est convaincu (comme tous les bons coachs) que ça ne sert à rien de drafter des QB aussi haut alors qu'il faut les reformer à 50% pour jouer en NFL, et surtout qu'il y a plein de veteran qui ne demande qu'à jouer. Miller est un défenseur efficace polyvalent, certes un peu léger face aux référence Cushing ou Matthews, mais il a la lecture de jeu supérieure qui fait de lui un danger permanent, c'est un type qui va se régaler en NFL. Son apport sera énorme au Cards.

Avec le choix de sixième dans l'ensemble, les Browns de Cleveland sélectionnez (traduction google)

A.J.Green, WR - Georgia



Evidemment, les Browns ont plein de besoins. Mais force est d'admettre que leur jeune QB Colt McCoy, qui a complété 60% de ses passes pour son année rookie, mérite qu'on lui donne des munitions. Green, c'est le receveur consensuel de la cuvée 2011, celui que tout le monde annonce comme le nouveau Andre Johnson. Sauf que bon, tous les ans y'en a un de ce genre, et que c'est pas forcément une réussite, les Lions peuvent en témoigner. Et Green n'est pas exempt de défauts, comme ses petites blessures suspectes ou sa suspension de l'an passé. N'empêche, c'est un des gros talents de la draft. Les Browns ont besoin d'un receveur dominateur (ou capables de le devenir), vu qu'ils n'en ont pas la moindre trace. Et vu que le jeu de course déménage bien avec Peyton Hillis, il suffirait que Green réponde aux attentes pour que l'attaque des Browns ressemble enfin à quelque chose. Et ça, pour Cleveland, ça vaut bien un 1st pick.

Une chose que les Cowboys ont compris: s'ils veulent penser aux playoffs, ils doivent garder Romo en vie.
Castonzo est un bon pick, il a starté à quasi tous ses matchs en NCAA. J'aime pas trop prendre des Jrs ou des Sophomores en OL, et ça tombe bien il est senior.
Pour ceux qui veulent le voir en action, suffit d'aller sur youtube, et de regarder son affrontement face à Robert Quinn.

On a tellement de besoins (QB - LB - WR - NT - G - HB etc) qu'il nous aurait fallu plusieurs 1er Tr... d'ailleurs je pense que Shanahan va surement faire un trade down pour récupérer davantage de choix.
B. Gabbert (QB) aurait pu être une possibilité... de même que R. Quinn (Hybrid) mais on a vraiment plus personne au poste de WR... notre WR N°1 étant à l'heure actuelle Anthony Armstrong (S. Moss étant FA). Sans oublier que Mc Nabb et Grossman sont encore dans l'effectif... donc autant ne pas compliquer une situation déjà très compliquée !

J'aurai bien sélectionné Prince Amukamara mais il est déjà parti donc je me rabats sur un DE, avec l'arrivé de Wade Phillips qui va changer de système défensif ils vont avoir besoin d'un bon pass rusher. Phillips sait former des LBs donc je pense qu'ils vont y aller avec Quinn. D'autant plus que c'est selon moi le meilleur joueur restant actuellement.

Évidemment, si pas Vince Young. Il faut remplacer Favre et même si les QBs ne sont pas trop à la mode cette année ,je ne pense pas qu'aucun d' eux ne soit pris jusqu'au 12ème choix, surtout avec le peu de free agent de qualité sur le marché.
Si l'on prend du recul sur le buzz Newton, Gabbert semble être le QB le plus prêt de cette génération.

Si VY, je penche pour un DE.

Nate Solder, Offensive Tackle, Colorado



Beaucoup de besoins aux Lions aussi. Associer Paea et Suh aurait pu donner quelque chose d’intéressant, de même que je prendre un DE ou un CB mais pour moi, la priorité absolue doit être d’empêcher la mort de Matt Stafford.

Donc Nate Solder, un LT très grand par la taille, très à l'aise en protection de passe, rapide, et qui a lui aussi 4 ans de fac derrière lui. Il devra travailler un peu sa puissance et sa technique de mains, mais il a une work-ethic suffisante pour cela. Il me semble le plus approprié car plus talentueux que Sherrod et plus aguerri que Tyron Smith.

With the 14th pick, Saint-Louis Rams selects DT Corey Liuget from Illinois.



La priorité des Rams est la défense, avec au moins la moitié des postes qui peuvent/doivent être upgradés, notamment en DT et OLB, et un WR.

Les 2 WR valables sont partis, pareil en DT et les OLB qui valent ce niveau sont pour une défense 3-4.

Le choix le plus logique serait un trade down d'une dizaine de place pour récupérer un autre pick, vu qu'il n'y a quasiment que des DE et OT qui valent le label mid 1st round et Liuget pourrait toujours être là.

Donc le choix quand même de Liuget car la défense contre la course a été particulièrement désastreuse l'an dernier avec 4.5yds/course accordés, et un DT aide toujours a bien colmater les brèches, de plus avec DE Hall et DT Robbins à 34 ans, il faut commencer à rajeunir.

Il y aurait aussi la possibilité des DE/DT qui sont plutôt des DE de défense 3-4 comme Cameron Jordan, JJ Wyatt ou Adam Heyward, qui selon les experts ont plus de valeurs que Liuget mais je préfère partir avec un vrai DT.

* Corey Liuget is a versatile defensive lineman who could play either defensive tackle position in a 4-3 set or the nose tackle spot in a 3-4. He holds the point of attack against the run, and handles double teams fairly well. But the thing that will make him most attractive to NFL teams is his ability to penetrate and be a disruptive force in opposing backfields.

* Liuget belongs in the discussion with the other elite defensive tackles in this class. Arguably this year's most productive DT against the run and also very active rushing the passer. Fires off the ball, maintains sound positioning, has hands that never stop moving, gets off blocks quickly, and closes on ball-carriers and quarterbacks with speed and power. Has the size and strength to move offensive lineman into the backfield. Also comfortable tackling in space and has the awareness to diagnose screens and draws and bat down balls at the line. Liuget has skyrocketed up draft boards this season and should be gone by the mid first.

With the 15th Pick, The Miami Dolphins select

MARK INGRAM, RB, (5’10 215 lbs.) – Alabama Crimson Tide



Competitiveness: Strong, quick, decisive runner that hits the hole quickly. Can run through you, and past you as well. A very powerful back that does not shy away from contact, and looks to stay in bounds and finish every run with authority. Always falls forward after contact. Is tough to bring down, and usually requires more than one defender to do so. Gets stronger as the quarters go on. Suffered a knee injury prior to the 2010 season, but didn’t let that keep him off the field.

Vision/Patience: Displays excellent vision behind a large and stout, run dominating offensive line. Does not just burst through the first hole that appears. Remains patient and waits for blocks to take place. This allows him to get to the second level quite often. Show great peripheral vision, and knows when to make the appropriate cut backs to turn a small run into a big one.

Agility/Acceleration: Has above average speed for a back of his size. Possesses a bruiser mentality, but when in open field, shows the ability to run away from defenders. Agility is also above average. Lateral quickness allows him to make instant cuts and can plant his cleat and stop on the dime.

Power/Balance: Shows great balance and body control. Runs well behind his pads. Stays low and maintains leverage prior to contact. Get’s stronger as the game goes on, and wears defenses down with his physicality.


Passing Game: Is a reliable option out the backfield. Caught 53 passes for 616 yards, and 4 touchdowns in his last two seasons. Those numbers don’t jump off the page, but they do when you realize that Alabama’s offense is run oriented. Gets to his check down spots quick. Shows good patience on screen plays, effectively allowing his offensive lineman to get into position. Also is an explosive blocker in the backfield.

Intangibles: The 2009 Heisman Trophy winner and the first in Alabama history. Derrick Thomas award winner for community outreach. Shows great leadership. Is Alabama’s feature running back, but often splits carriers with Trent Richardson. Never complains about his work load and is a team first guy. Comes from good bloodlines. Father, Mark Ingram Sr. was an NFL star in the 1990’s. Mark Sr. is now in prison for money laundering and fraud. This hasn’t been a distraction to Ingram, but it has motivated him to do good on and off the field.

Overall Stock: Ingram will be the first running back off the board in a relatively weak running back class. Comes from a pro-style offense and has experience carrying the ball 20+ times a game. Teams will do their due diligence when it comes to his health. Hampered by a knee injury in 2010, his stock has dropped a little since his outstanding 2009 Heisman campaign. If all checks out, expect him to go in the middle of the 1st round.

DE, Ryan Kerrigan (6’4 259 lbs.) – Purdue Boilermakers



Pass Rush Skills: Quick off the snap. Powerful and explosive rusher. Does not have elite speed, but shows a great deal of suddenness in short areas. Does a good job of getting underneath linemen and bending the corner. Closing burst is amazing. Quarterbacks rarely get away once he gets around linemen. Has the ability to use leverage and strength to walk lineman back into the quarterback. Has the knack for causing the quarterback to fumble. Caused 11 fumbles in two years. Lacks the athleticism to quickly change directions and needs to work on counter moves.

Versus the run: Very effective against the run. Has the upper body strength to shed blockers, and the lower body strength to anchor. Does a good job at setting the edge and keeping contain to his side. Anticipates the snap count well and uses his quick first step to stop ball carriers for loses. Excellent closing speed allows him to chase down ball carriers from the backside. Could be more violent with his hands.

Versatility: Has the perfect size and pass rushing ability to convert to outside linebacker, but lacks the athleticism to hold up in man or zone coverage. At this point, he is strictly a defensive end.

Instincts/Motor: Solid instincts, especially against the run. Does a good job at staying true to his responsibilities. Is rarely fooled by misdirection or screen plays. Excellent feel for jarring the ball loose from quarterbacks when securing the sack. Motor runs hot at all times. Is relentless in his efforts against the run and pass. Makes a lot of plays off of hustle alone.

Intangibles: 2010 Team Captain, BIG Ten defensive player of the year, 1st Team AP All-American, and Walter Camp Football Foundation 1st Team All-American. Received the team’s Pit Bull Award for exemplifying and sustaining tenacity and intense play. Possesses a blue collar attitude and work ethic.

Overall Stock: Ryan Kerrigan has the size and pass rushing ability to play outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense. It is yet to be seen if he possesses the athleticism necessary to play standing up. Teams will have their eyes focused on Kerrigan during offseason workouts. If he can show that he is comfortable without his hand in the dirt, then he will for sure be snatched up by a 3-4 team in the draft. If not, he’ll most likely play the power defensive end position in the 4-3. Kerrigan is a menace off the edge. His motor wears linemen down over the course of a game. His combination of power and quick burst is too much to handle, and his knack for causing turnovers makes him very desirable to teams. There are a lot of teams in need of a pass rusher. Kerrigan will for sure come off the board in the first round. Depending on how much athleticism he shows at the combine and pro day will determine how high he goes.

Les jaguars ont plusieurs options au 1° tour de cette draft: LB, DE QB, WR
Si un des 2 top WR est encore là, il le prendront surement, sachant qu'ils ont cutté sims walker
Mais, vu que Green et jones sont partis très tôt, ils vont se concentrer sur la défense.
sachant qu'aucun LB, Von Miller parti, ne vaut cette place, ils optent pour un DE très prometteur et pouvant jouer OLB (si il progresse en couverture) et continue donc de renforcer leur DL avec un joueur qui apporte une vrai menace sur le QB adverse.
Par ailleurs, les jags ont eu un private meeting avec lui.

Will affect passing lanes when he cannot reach the quarterback... Gets after the quarterback... Can collapse the pocket... Good arsenal of moves... Very solid swim move... Can be used on defensive line stunts... Solid against the run... Makes plays in the backfield... Good change of direction agility... Good tackler... Good mobility... Gets to the ball carrier... Stays active... Solid drops in coverage... Plays well in space... Closes quickly... Hard worker... Relentless... Good motor... Has the frame to add 8-10 pounds... Schematic versatility, ran a 4.78-40 at the combine, can be disruptive as a 4-3 DE or stand up as 3-4 OLB... As redshirt freshman in 2009, Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American, All-Big 12 second team... Has a lot of potential, has only been playing football since he was a junior in high school.

Negatives: Lacks strength and bulk... Does not appear to have much man-muscle yet... Pass rush tendencies will become predictable... Can sometimes be washed out against the run... Would be a project as a 3-4 outside linebacker... A fractured fibula sidelined him for three games in 2010.

Finalement, c'est sympa de drafter pour les patriots. Beaucoup de picks, pas énormément de besoins, alors on prend à peu près ce qu'il reste de mieux.
Donc Aldon Smith, ça tombe bien, les patriots ont besoin de pass-rushers extérieurs. J'ai hésité avec un DE (JJ Watt) ou un OT (Tyron Smith), mais il y a la place pour prendre de bons joueurs à ce poste un peu plus tard.

San Diego a des trous, ça on le sait. La ligne défensive va avoir besoin de renforts et Cam Jordan (avec quelques kilos en plus) pourra jouer dans le 3-4 de Manusky. S'ils disent qu'il peut jouer le 5-technique, alors il a tout bon. J'aurai pris un MLB si y'avait de quoi, mais rien qui ne vaille un 1st round pour moi.

Akeem Ayers, Outside LineBacker, UCLA

Citation :

Ayers is very impressive on the hoof and he has the speed and athleticism to make an immediate impact at the next level. He has the range and ball skills to play strong side linebacker in a 4-3, and the balance and closing burst to play outside linebacker in a 3-4. He lacks the lower body strength to be stout against the run, but uses his long arms to keep blockers away from his body and flashes the ability to quickly shed. Ayers is a versatile athlete with great measurables that projects to be selected in the middle of the first round.

-Strengths
Ayers is tall with a thick muscular build. Possesses the speed to make plays from sideline-to-sideline. Very capable edge rusher that shows good bend and a closing burst. Very athletic kid that has the ball skills to make interceptions and flashes playmaking abilities. Delivers violent shots tackling and uses his length to make plays even when he is out of position.
-Weaknesses
A little late reading his keys and can get caught out of position. Does not have the lower body strength to blow up blockers in run support. Lacks consistent footwork in his back pedal and allows tight ends and backs to get behind him at times. Tends to tackle a bit high.

Les Giants ont l'habitude de drafter des DL avec leurs premiers choix, cette année , ils ont besoin de renouveler leur corps de LB.
Keith Bulluck a 34 ans, les Giants ont besoin de renouveau en outside LB.

Cependant les Giants ont besoin d'un tackle et éventuellement d'un RB.

Avec le 20è pick, les Tampa Bay Buccaneers sélectionne JJ Watt de Wisconsin

6'6 - 290lbs - 4.78 au 40 yards - 34 bench press



Longue hésitation pour ce pick, Tampa va chercher avant tout un gros pass-Rusher, il ne reste quasiment que Justin Houston, mais je ne suis pas enthousiaste sur ce joueur.
D'une car on le voit plus comme OLB dans une défense 3-4, d'après ce que j'ai lu, il serait pas très bon contre la course et son répertoire technique serait assez faible.
De deux, car il a quelques flags, avec une suspension pour substance non autorisée.

Ensuite on pourrait avoir besoin d'un OT, Trueblood ne sera peut-être pas conservé, mais en plus de Penn qui a la stature de pro-bowler, Tampa à l'air satisfait de James Lee à droite, et Dotson en back-up. 3 Undraft.

Un CB est une possibilité, il reste encore une année à Barber, on va voir si Biggers et Lewis peuvent progresser pour prendre la place de n°2.

Peut-être un ILB si Ruud resigne pas, mais je viens de voir que Tampa n'a envoyé personne au Pro Day d'Illinois où joue le ILB #1.

Tampa a besoin d'upgrader ses 2 DE, Watt est l'un des meilleurs joueurs disponibles, et va faire l'une des DL les plus jeunes au côté des 1ere année McCoy et Price.

On va dire que c'est le moins bon choix pour Tampa, donc peut-être un trade down ou un trade-up pour aller chercher un Ryan Kerrigan ou un Aldon Smith.

Able to play left tackle

Can mirror defenders in space
Gets to second level and blocks downfield
Intelligent and very high character
Tons of experience against top competition

Weaknesses:
Must get stronger and add bulk
Tends to lunge
Balance issues
Run blocking needs work
Mild demeanor; has to finish blocks

Summary: The type who does everything well but nothing great --- Possesses both the physical tools and intangibles that you look for in a left tackle prospect --- Not particularly flashy but very consistent and arguably the best all - around blocker in this class.

Dans cette configuration, les rivaux d'AFC West qui ont un pick au 1er tour ont renforcé leur DL. Ce serait pas mal d'améliorer leur position d'OT, quel que ce soit le coté (probablement à droite d'abord). Matt Cassel n'a jamais eu assez de temps pour lancer la balle (pas forcément de la faute de l'OL d'ailleurs) et les 2 WRs qui méritent de partir au 1er tour sont partis.
Les Chiefs ont besoin de prendre un NT, mais leur échecs successifs avec Glenn Dorsey (2008) et Tyson Jackson (2009) en 1er tour sur cette position ne m'indique pas ce genre de pari.
Selon moi, les Chiefs ont besoin 1) d'un WR en face de Bowe 2) un OT.

• Solid in pass pro with nimble feet to slide / mirror

• Intelligent with excellent instincts and awareness
• Very tough and willingly plays through pain / injuries
• Mature, hard working and is respected by teammates
• A ton of experience against top-notch competition

Weaknesses:
• Merely average athleticism, agility and balance
• Issues with speed and struggles to protect edge
• Not a knee bender, plays tall and leverage suffers
• Will too often gets caught reaching and leaning
• Falls off of blocks and does not sustain very well
• Has some trouble in space and at the second level
• Is not a finisher and may lack a killer instinct
• A history of injuries and durability is a concern

J'espérais cueillir Sherrod mais les Chiefs le soufflent juste avant. Mike Pouncey pourrait être une bonne option, également.

Bottom Line on Tyron Smith:

Although he played mostly on the right side at USC, Tyron Smith has the athleticism to play left tackle in the NFL. In fact, his biggest strength lies in his pass protection. He is, however, a little undersized and is going to have to continue bulking up. He does appear to have the frame to do just that without losing too much of his speed and agility. Right now, though, his best bet for success is to land with a team that employs a zone-blocking scheme, which best suits his skill set.
Projection: Smith appears to be a guy who, with a little time, has the potential to develop into a tackle who can be consistently effective against the league's elite speed rushers. He's a little raw and a bit of a risky pick, and he would probably benefit from another year in school. But his upside may be as high as any tackle in the draft, which could land him in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Déjà 4 OT partis, mais les Eagles saisissent leur chance en voyant Tyron Smith encore disponible. Les Eagles ont deux gros besoins en arrivant à cette draft: CB et RT. Niveau CB, les 2 qui valent un 1er tour sûr sont partis, Jimmy Smith posant de réelles questions de personnalité, ce qui a tendance à faire fuir les Eagles. Harris semble un reach ici.
Côté OT, Tyron Smith a le bon profil, d'autant qu'il est habitué à jouer à droite, là il pourra protéger le blind side de Vick. Annoncé à 285lbs, il est arrivé à 305lbs au combine et a montré qu'il avait encore la place pour se renforcer. Formé par Mudd, cela pourra donner un support de poids à une OL en grand besoin.
Sa côte est en train de monter, je ne suis pas certain qu'il sera encore là en 23. Par contre, ce qu'on sait aussi, c'est que Reid n'a pas l'habitude de drafter à sa position initiale...

Les Saints ont pas énormément de besoins, ça tient plus du renouvellement, donc autant prendre le meilleur joueur dispo, surtout que niveau D-End, c'est pas forcément la joie en Louisiane. Un LB aurait pu être envisageable, tant le besoin est pressant, mais je suis pas spécialement tenté par ceux présents ici.
