The Detroit Lions select with first overall pick on the 2009 NFL Draft
OT Jason Smith from Baylor.

Smith (6' 5" 309 lbs) is a super talented offensive lineman and can move in and start right away at left tackle. Strong (33 reps @ 225 lbs) and long arms (33 3/4").

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Jason_smith

Strengths:
Outstanding athleticism...Very nimble and is extremely light on his feet...Quick and agile with good balance...Nice size with long arms and a frame that can accommodate more weight...Terrific range to pull and get to the second level...Has a powerful initial punch...Moves well laterally...Really excels in pass protection and can handle speed off the edge...Aggressive with a great motor...Plays the game with a nasty demeanor...Fantastic work ethic...Intelligent...Still has a lot of upside.

Weaknesses:
Must get stronger...Could stand to add some more bulk...Is not overly stout at the point of attack and will get bumped backwards...Doesn't get a great push in the run game...Has to improve his footwork and technique...Can be more consistent when it comes to leverage...May have some durability concerns...Did not operate in a pro style offense.

Notes:
Was a four-year starter in the Big 12...Began his college career as a tight end...Redshirted in 2004...Started eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2005 and finished the year with 6 receptions for 70 yards (11.7 avg.) and 1 touchdown...Was moved to the offensive line in 2006 and started all 12 games at right tackle...Kicked over to the left side and started there his final two seasons...Missed five games with a strained right MCL in 2007 and was also hampered by a foot injury...A 3rd Team All-American and 1st Team All-Big 12 as a senior...Played in a two-point stance in the Bears spread option attack...Still somewhat raw but has all the physical tools you look for as well as the first-rate intangibles that will help him maximize his potential...Pro Bowl-caliber

OT - Eugene MONROE (VIRGINIA)

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Eugene-monroe

Strengths:
Prototypical size with long arms...Very athletic...Quick and agile with great balance...Light on his feet...Moves well laterally...Smooth and fluid...Has the ability to adjust and recover...Strong with a potent initial punch...Skilled technician with great footwork...Understands positioning and angles...Does a great job in pass protection and can handle speed off the edge...Stout at the point of attack and holds his ground...Displays some power in the run game and gets a decent push...Good mobility and range...Real smart with excellent awareness.

Weaknesses:
Durability is a legit concern...Inconsistent with his leverage...Could definitely stand to be more aggressive...Is not a true road grading run blocker...Needs to strengthen his lower body...Can do a better job of sustaining his blocks...Is not super tough and may lack a killer instinct.

Notes:
Was the #3 recruit in the entire country, regardless of position, coming out of high school ...Was essentially a three-year starter for the Cavs...Backed up D'Brickashaw Ferguson as a true freshman and also played some right guard...Underwent surgery to repair a dislocated kneecap in the spring of 2006 and missed two games with a sprained knee in 2007...Was a 2nd Team All-American and 1st Team All-ACC as a senior...Received the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the best blocker in the ACC in 2008...This guy was the reason Branden Albert was playing inside at guard rather than outside at left tackle like he does in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs...Hails from a college program with a strong reputation for producing high draft picks and quality pros at his position...Has a well-rounded game and can be a factor as a pass protector and a run blocker...Left tackle prospect with the tools to successfully man the blind side in the NFL.

With the 3rd pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Chiefs selects :

Aaron Curry, LB from Wake Forest

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks 34972223.th

Strengths:
Possesses a terrific blend of size and bulk...Exceptional speed, quickness and athleticism...Very physical and tough...Excellent strength and power...Extremely aggressive...Outstanding instincts and awareness...Offers a lot of versatility...Reliable tackler who will deliver the big hit...Really uses his hands well...Does a nice job of taking on and shedding blockers...Superb pass rusher and blitzer...Has sideline-to-sideline range...Will attack and fill against the run...Comfortable in space...Can match up and make plays in coverage...Has a lot of experience...Durable and never missed a game due to injury...Smart...Hard worker...Team leader...Super productive.

Weaknesses:
Can be too aggressive at times and will overpursue...Not quite as tall as you'd prefer...Pass rush repertoire is limited...Marginal change of direction skills...May have some trouble when it comes to recognition in coverage....Is not particularly fluid when he is forced to flip his hips.

Notes:
Won the Butkus Award, which honors the nation's top linebacker, as a senior...Brother Patrick Pinkney was a quarterback at East Carolina...Was a four-year starter in the ACC...In 2007 he took all four of his interceptions back for touchdowns, with an average return of 56.5 yards...Could play outside or inside in either a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive scheme...A marvelous all-around player who is effective in every aspect of the game...As good as any linebacker prospect to come along in recent memory...A legitimate Top 10 talent who should be one of the most highly rated players available for the 2009 NFL Draft.

MATTHEW STATTFORD 6-3/237 Georgia

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks MStafford2

Strengths: Average height, but has great bulk ... Born with a rocket launcher for a right arm ... Throws the ball with a nice, tight spiral consistently ... Puts great touch on fade routes ... Displays a compact release ... Secures the football in the pocket ... Plays in a pro-style offense and is well coached ... Has a lot of experience against top competition as a 3 year starter ... More productive in junior season than he was in past ... Upside warrants a top three pick.

Weaknesses: Drop could be much quicker ... Sluggish footwork at times ... Throws off his back foot more than he should and it leads to poor accuracy ... Puts too much zip on the football on intermediate and crossing routes ... Doesn't sell the play action as well as he could ... Not going to elude pressure in the pocket, but does a decent job of moving the chains with his feet ... Doesn't show an understanding to audible into the correct pass protection or diagnose coverages.

Summary: Coming into his junior season, Stafford was not statistically impressive, but he managed to put together several highly productive games... In an offense without many short and intermediate routes, which is difficult for a quarterback to operate in. His production is impressive considering the offensive system ... The favorite to be taken No. 1 overall.

Player Comparison: Jay Cutler. Both players have rocket arms with the tendency to force throws into double coverage and extremely tight windows.

With the 5 pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selects :

Brian Orakpo DE/LB from Texas University

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Brian-orakpo-is-strong

Defensive end Brian Orakpo is a superb pass rusher. His numbers at Texas have been good so far, but are not that spectacular. He tallied four tackles-for-loss and a half a sack as a freshman and earned Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors. The following year he managed 4.5 sacks and six tackles-for-loss. As an upperclassman last season Orakpo improved those numbers and ended up with 5.5 sacks and nine tackles-for-loss, although his playing time was limited due to a knee injury. His numbers for 2008 through just a couple games are already impressive.

But even without great numbers in 2008, Orakpo is an NFL ready defensive end. He is 6-4 and 258 pounds and a great athlete who can power or finesse his way into the backfield. He bench presses 515 pounds and squats 600. Those are some pretty impressive numbers, especially for a player who arrived in Austin undersized.

If his knee stays healthy, Orakpo has the talent to be a first day selection in April. A strong showing in 2008 and at the Combine could easily move him into the first round. His versatility to play on the end or at linebacker is also a big plus.

10/16 Update: No defensive lineman is having a year better than Orakpo. After just six games, the defensive end has tallied 12 tackles-for-loss, eight sacks and 16 quarterback hurries. Orakpo went up against Oklahoma offensive tackle Phil Loadholt in the Red River Rivalry and absolutely dominated the big lineman. That alone nearly boosted Orakpo into the first round.

12/17 Update: Orakpo continued his dominance during his senior season and continued to rise up the draft boards. The defensive end finished the regular season with 10.5 sacks and 18 tackles-for-loss. For his efforts he garnered a plethora of postseason accolades. Being named to the AP first-team All-American squad and being the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year are both very nice, but winning the Bronco Nagurski Trophy is even better. Orakpo is well on his way to a successful career in the NFL.

With the 6th pick, the cincinnati Bengals selects : Chris ''Beanie" Wells

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Beaniewisconsin

Height: 6-1 | Weight: 235 | 40-Time: 4.59

Strengths:
Outstanding size and bulk...Very athletic...Strong, powerful downhill runner...Breaks a lot of tackles and doesn't go down easily...Excellent stiff-arm...Explosive with a burst...Patient with very good vision and instincts...Has nifty feet...Moves well in the hole...Good balance and usually falls forward...Can stick his foot in the ground and change directions...Reaches top speed in a hurry...Plays faster than he times and was able to run away from people in college...Workhorse who gets stronger as the game goes on...Real competitive...Terrific production.

Weaknesses:
Often hampered by minor nagging injuries...Just average timed speed...Limited experience as a receiver...Doesn't have great hands or run good routes...Will struggle to get outside and turn the corner...Not overly elusive...Might be too tall and runs high at times...Adequate blocker but could show better effort...Toughness has been questioned.

Notes:
Nickname is "Beanie"...Local Akron, Ohio product who was an elite recruit coming out of high school...Named MVP of the 2006 U.S. Army All-American Bowl...Split carries with Antonio Pittman as a true freshman...Named 1st Team All-Big Ten in 2007...The fourth leading rusher in Ohio State history despite only playing three seasons...Voted the Buckeyes MVP in 2007 and 2008...As a sophomore he battled an ankle injury and a broken left wrist, which eventually required surgery...Missed time with toe and hamstring injuries and a concussion as a junior...Gamer who had some of his best games on the biggest stages...For all the talk about his durability concerns he has never suffered a major injury and actually only missed a grand total of just three games in college, all in 2008...Has shown the ability to play through pain but will always be susceptible to getting nicked up due to his physical, aggressive running style...Has the talent to be one of the best running backs in the entire league as long as he can stay healthy.

With the 7th pick, the Oakland Raiders selects : Michael Crabtree

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks MichaelCrabtree1

Michael Crabtree's Numbers:
Height: 6-3
Weight: 215
40-YD: 4.50
School: Texas Tech
Year: Sophomore (third year)

Michael Crabtree Scouting Report:
Perhaps the most dynamic offensive player in the 2009 NFL Draft, wide receiver Michael Crabtree was a force for the Texas Tech Red Raiders in both 2007 and 2008. As a freshman, he set NCAA records for a first-year player for receptions (134), receiving yards (1,962) and touchdown receptions (22). In two years of play, Crabtree caught 231 passes for 3,127 yards and 41 touchdowns. Sure, his stats are inflated by the pass-happy spread offense he plays in. But Crabtree's skills shouldn't be considered overrated because of it.
At 6-3, 215 pounds, Crabtree has solid size as well as the best pair of hands among this year's top prospects at the wide receiver position, which has drawn comparisons between he and the Arizona Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald. He has good-but-not-great speed, but more importantly, he has a knack for always making the clutch play, making big catches in key situations.

Like Fitzgerald, Crabtree also has good vertical skills, and can play a physical game if he has to. Although he lacks elite speed, he always manages to gain separation from his opponent and does a good job of finding holes in the coverage. He's sharp in his routes, and runs everything to completion; plays with confidence.

With the 8th pick, the Jacksonville jaguars selects : Rey Maualuga (USC)

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks ReyMaualuga6a

Withe the departure of Mike Peterson, Jags are in need for a real run stopper/hard Hitter in their linebacker corp

One of the hardest hitters in all of college football, USC linebacker Rey Maualuga passed on entering the NFL Draft in 2008 despite being projected as a first-round prospect.

He's a big linebacker at 6-3 and 260 pounds, but he carries his size well. He's a very smooth athlete with sideline-to-sideline speed and even better short-range quickness. He possesses great instincts, has a nose for the ball, and always seems to be playing downhill. He's also a very fierce hitter.

Maualuga has been overshadowed somewhat by all the talent surrounding him at USC, but he burst onto the national scene with a dominating performance in the 2008 Rose Bowl against Illinois in which he recorded three sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble.

He had a reputation heading into his senior season for overrunning plays and being out of position, but he has become more disciplined and a better player overall.

With the 9th pick, the Green Bay Packers selects : B.J. Raji (Boston College)

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Raji

Strengths:

Outstanding mass and bulk...Excellent strength...Stout at the point of attack...Can fill two gaps...Able to occupy multiple blockers...Tough, powerful and nasty...A beast against the run...Can really collapse the pocket...Able to penetrate and make plays in the backfield...Above average athleticism...Quick and agile...Pursues well and has a burst to close...Good instincts and awareness...Will offer schematic versatility.

Weaknesses:

Conditioning and stamina have been problems...Is shorter than you'd prefer...Maturity and commitment have been questioned...Doesn't always play with proper leverage...Inconsistent and his motor tends to run hot and cold...Is not an elite pass rusher...Struggled to keep up with his studies and intelligence may be an issue..Durability concerns?

Notes:

First name is "Busari"...Father migrated from Nigeria...A three-year starter in the ACC...Named 1st Team All-ACC in 2008...Sat out the 2007 season for academic reasons and redshirted...Was ejected from a game in 2006 for throwing a punch...Missed spring ball in 2008 after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery...Weighed more than 350 pounds at one point but is most effective at 325-330...Potential 3-4 nose tackle but could also fit in a 4-3 scheme...Has the physical tools to be great but intangibles could hold him back and prevent him from maximizing his potential...Had an amazing senior season and showed what a truly dominant force he can be when in shape and motivated.

With the 10th pick, the San Francisco 49ers select: Everette Brown (Florida State)

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks 05miami.1_600x356

Strengths:
Excellent athleticism...Great speed and quickness...Explosive with a burst...Possesses a terrific first step...Agile with good change of direction and balance...Has big hands and uses them well...Has a varied repertoire of pass rush moves...Can be effective off the edge or inside...Good strength...Has a great motor...Does a nice job in pursuit and closes in a hurry...Offers some positional versatility...Strong work ethic...A team leader...Very productive...Still has considerable upside.

Weaknesses:
Does not have the ideal height or bulk that you look for...Might have to make a position change at the next level...Does not hold up well against the run...Pretty raw and wasn't used much in coverage...A little inconsistent...Frame is close to being maxed out...Marginal instincts and awareness...Poor program pedigree...Limited starting experience.

Notes:
Could be either a 4-3 defensive end or a 3-4 outside linebacker in the pros...Redshirted in 2005...Saw extensive action as a backup early in his career but did not emerge as a full-time starter until his junior year...Garnered a number of 2nd Team All-American honors in '08...Named 1st Team All-ACC and finished as the runner-up for ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in sacks and tackles for a loss in '08...Finished the 2008 season third in the nation in sacks and was the only player to rank in the top four in both sacks and tackles for loss...His 46.5 career tackles for a loss rank second in Florida St. history...Will have to battle the stigma that is associated with Seminole defensive ends because guys like Jamal Reynolds, Alonzo Jackson and Kamerion Wimbley have not fared well in recent years...One of the top pass rushers in the '09 Draft.

With the 11th pick, the Buffalo Bills select : Aaron Maybin (6'4 - 252Lbs)

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Aaron_maybin_300_250

40-Yard Dash 4.89 - Pro Day : 4.59
Vertical jump 38.0 - Pro Day : 40
Broad jump 10'4
20-yard shuttle 4.38

Overview

Maybin decided to leave Penn State after a redshirt sophomore season that saw him named as a finalist for the Bednarik and Hendricks Awards, despite not starting the first two games of the season. The first-team All-Big Ten selection took advantage of teammate Maurice Evans' suspension for off-field issues by making 49 tackles, 20 for loss, 12 sacks and three forced fumbles in 2008.

Puisqu'Everette Brown est parti, les Bills prennent ce qu'il reste de mieux en Pass Rusher DE. Le dernier Nittany Lion qu'ils ont drafté ne les a pas déçus (Posluszny)

With the 12th pick, the Denver Broncos select : Tyson Jackson (LSU)

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Jackson_tyson

POSITION: Defensive End
HEIGHT: 6-5
WEIGHT: 292

Analysis :

Positives: Versatile defender who operated as an end in LSU's base 4-3 alignment, but could also be moved inside as a 4-3 under (3-technique) tackle or as an end in the 3-4 alignment. Good team defender. Understands his containment responsibilities. Excellent size and strength to stack at the point of attack. Flashes the ability to shed blocks and make the play. Good initial quickness off the snap. Can pressure the tackle's outside shoulder and has the strength to push the blocker into the pocket toward the quarterback or use his hands to rip off the block. Gets his hands up in the passing lane. Good lateral quickness and hand technique to disengage from blocks and make the play as opportunities present themselves. Hustles to chase ballcarriers downfield.

Negatives: Bit of a 'tweener for 4-3 teams. Lacks a great burst upfield, closing speed or repertoire of pass rush moves to ever be a dynamic outside pass rusher. Marginal speed to close. Does not change direction quickly in the backfield to prevent quarterbacks stepping up or getting yards with their feet.

Compares To: MARCUS SPEARS, Dallas -- Jackson shows flashes of brilliance but you can see an overall lack of consistency in his game. He is probably a better fit as a defensive tackle, where his adequate burst and change-of-direction agility will not be exposed as they would on the edge. That versatility will likely make him more inviting to a team that will utilize a 3-4 alignment.

Injury Report

2007: Left the Florida contest (10/06) briefly after a helmet-to-helmet collision.

With the 13th pick, the Washington Redskins select OT Andre Smith (Alabama).

Smith was one of the top five high school recruits three years ago, and immediately paid dividends for the Crimson Tide. He became just the seventh true freshman to start a season opener for the program, and has started every game since then at left tackle. Smith had a junior season players dream about. He won the Outland Trophy, earned All SEC honors, and was a unanimous All American.

Strengths

Smith is a lineman that has the ability to dominate on every snap. He is a good natural athlete, and is light on his feet for a lineman that could tip the scales at 350lbs after dinner. Smith sets up well in pass protection and does a good job shuffling his feet laterally to keep the defender at bay. He is very powerful at the point of attack and can simply man handle college lineman, opening up a lot of running room on his side of the field. Smith has the natural athleticism and strength to play any spot on the offensive line, outside of the center position.

Weaknesses

There have always been size concerns with Smith. He is a bit short for a top tier tackle, but more importantly his weight is a pressing issue. He has done a good job showing up at 325 at his pro day, but there are still concerns. He does has a soft build and must get into better shape. His maturity and work ethic are in question because he admitted at the combine that he didn’t work out enough to prepare, so he went home early and did not work out.

Future

Andre Smith had a tremendous junior campaign that had him being mentioned as a candidate for the top spot overall in the draft. Since the regular season, it has all been downhill. He was suspended for the Sugar Bowl for dealings with an agent. Then he did not work out at the combine, going as far as admitting he was not prepared to work out. On top of that, he left the facilities without notifying anyone. To his credit, Smith did have a respectable pro day where he tested well in lineman drills but he still is not a finished product. His entire future will come down to how badly he wants it. He has the natural gifts to be a pro bowl tackle or guard, but must get into better shape to maximize his talents. He is a borderline top ten talent that has slipped to the third best lineman at best since the post season began.

With the 14th pick, the New Orleans Saints select CB-FS Malcolm Jenkins from Ohio State

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Malcolm-jenkins-pictures%20(2)

For the second year in a row, Malcolm Jenkins begins the season as the top cornerback prospect for the NFL Draft. Entering his fourth year as a starter for the Buckeyes, Jenkins possesses a rare blend of size, speed, and instinct at the position. Many teams needing secondary help will even consider him at the free safety position because of his outstanding open field tackling. He is an excellent cover man, but has the size to help out in run support like a safety. He played in 52 games at Ohio State, and registered 196 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and forced 4 fumbles. In coverage, Jenkins has tallied an impressive 11 interceptions and 17 passes broken up - including two interceptions he has taken back for touchdowns. Jenkins showed another facet of his game this year that will likely be important as an NFL rookie, when he blocked 2 kicks playing special teams for the Buckeyes. Because teams try their best to throw away from him, he gets fewer chances to make big plays each year. Jenkins has excellent instincts and positioning in coverage. He's far less likely to get his hips out of position like other young corners, and makes fantastic breaks on the ball while it's in the air. According to the Ohio State Athletics website, Malcolm Jenkins runs a 4.3 in the 40 yard dash, a time that will have scouts drooling on their stop watches if he can do it. That type of speed at his size would vault him to the top of draft boards without his impressive resume. He also plays some of the best press coverage you'll ever see out of a college cornerback. Jenkins' physical tools, good technique, and big game experience should see him taken in the top 5 or at worst, the top 10 of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Malcolm Jenkins' lackluster 4.55 second 40 yard dash time at the NFL Combine may have sealed his fate as an NFL safety. This still doesn't take him out of the first round, but he is likely to slip out of the top ten overall picks.

With the 14th pick, the Houston Texans select CB Vontae Davis from Illinois

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Vontae-davis-549

Height: 5-111/8 | Weight: 203 | 40-Time: 4.49

Strengths:
Prototypical height and bulk...Smooth and fluid with top-notch athleticism...Excellent speed...Flips his hips well and can turn and run...Has a burst to close and can recover when beat...Very strong with a muscular physique...Tough and physical...Gets a good jam at the line...A reliable tackler who can deliver the big hit...Does a fantastic job in run support...Decent hands and ball skills...Capable of excelling in either man or zone coverage...May offer some positional versatility...Solid return man and special teamer...Durable...Has lots of experience against top competition...Nice bloodlines..Major upside.

Weaknesses:
Has clashed with coaches and does not take instruction well...Poor work ethic...Inconsistent...Motor runs hot and cold...Questionable instincts and awareness...Gambles and takes too many unnecessary risks...Gets too high in his backpedal...Doesn't make as many plays as he should...Struggles with the mental aspects of the game...Skates by on his natural talent...Full of himself and reads his own press clippings.

Notes:
Brother, Vernon, plays for the San Francisco 49'ers and was the 6th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft...Was a three-year starter for the Illini...Named 1st Team All-Big Ten in 2007 and 2008...Was benched by Ron Zook at one point as a junior...Could also project to safety at the next level...Has everything you look for physically but intangibles leave much to be desired...The most gifted defensive back in this draft and a legit Top 10 pick based on talent alone...Boom or Bust prospect.

With the 16th pick,
The San Diego Chargers select OT Michael Oher from Ole Miss

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Michael_oher_300_250

Height: 6-41/2 | Weight: 309 | 40-Time: 5.19

Official Bio

Strengths:
Outstanding athleticism...Has prototypical size with excellent bulk and long arms...Quick and agile with great balance...Nimble and light on his feet...Very strong...Moves well laterally...Mobile and can get out to the second level...Exceptional pass blocker who makes it look easy...Stout at the point of attack...Powerful and gets a great push in the run game...Able to control defenders once he locks on...Plays with a nasty demeanor...Tough and durable...Offers some versatility...A lot of experience against elite competition...Still has considerable upside.

Weaknesses:
Inconsistent and does not always play up to his abilities...Motor runs hot and cold...Lacks great awareness...Needs to improve his technique when it comes to things like footwork and use of hands...Gets high in his stance and he doesn't always play with proper leverage...Might require extra attention from coaches ... Intelligence could be an issue.

Notes:
Last name is pronounced "oar"...Was a four-year starter in the SEC and never missed a game...Played offensive guard as a freshman with the Rebels and some feel that might be his best position in the pros...Named a 1st Team All-American in 2008...A three-time All-SEC selection (2nd Team in 2006 and 1st Team in 2007 and 2008)...One of three finalists for the Outland Trophy as a senior...Didn't start playing football until late in his high school career yet didn't allow a sack as a junior or senior...Averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds in basketball and also finished as the state runner-up in discus as a prep...Originally entered the 2008 NFL Draft after his junior season but changed his mind and went back to Oxford...To say he has overcome a lot in life would be an understatement and his story was the subject of a best-selling book by Michael Lewis titled The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game...There are some question marks when it comes to intangibles but this guy has the raw physical tools to be a franchise left tackle in the NFL...Boom or Bust type who personifies the term "High Risk / High Reward"...Rare physical specimen with arguably as much pure talent as any offensive tackle to come along in many years

Strengths:
Nice bulk and a solid frame...Good athlete...Arm strength is more than adequate and can make all the throws...Good mechanics and delivery with a quick release...Terrific accuracy...Really anticipates well and displays nice touch and timing...Will buy time in the pocket and make plays with his feet...Can throw on the run...Good ball skills...Intelligent with a high football IQ...Recognizes blitzes, can read coverages and go through his progressions...Product of a pro style offense...Is tough, fiery and super competitive...Truly loves the game...Excellent work ethic...A team leader and field general...Media savvy...Still has upside.

Limited starting experience...Doesn't have the ideal height that you look for...Durability is a concern...Does not always throw a tight spiral...Has some trouble with the deep ball...Can get flustered by a strong pass rush...Makes some bad decisions...Won't run away from people...Had an issue off-the-field...Was surrounded by a lot of talent.

Notes:
Was the consensus #1 quarterback recruit in the country coming out of high school...As a prep he was mentored by noted quarterback guru Bob Johnson...Redshirted in 2005...Battled for the starting job after Matt Leinart graduated but lost out to John David Booty and served as a backup the next two years...Finally took over the starting job as a redshirt junior in 2008...Was arrested and suspended in 2006 after being accused of sexually assaulting a female student but no charges were filed due to "a lack of sufficient evidence beyond a reasonable doubt"...Broke his thumb in 2007...Dislocated his kneecap prior to the 2008 season...Ended his Trojan career on a high note by completing 28 of 35 attempts (80%) for 413 yards and 4 touchdowns in the Rose Bowl against Penn St...Only started 16 college games...With another year of development he might have been in contention to be the #1 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft...More talented than Matt Leinart but not quite in Carson Palmer's class...Lack of experience is a huge concern and he may require some development and patience...Has the physical tools and intangibles to be a franchise signal caller in the NFL.

With the 18th pick, the Denver Broncos select : Josh Freeman (Kansas State)

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Josh-freeman-pictures%20(15)

POSITION : Quarter Back
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 248

Analysis :

Positives: Tall frame with a solid build. Arm strength allows him to make all of the NFL throws and attack the deep half. Stands tall, will step up in the pocket, keep his eyes downfield and deliver the ball to secondary target. Good, not great, quickness on release. Keeps the ball low over the middle, away from defenders. Can be accurate on fades and corner routes, although he needs a bit more air under the ball. Good straight-ahead runner with long strides and deceptive speed, can shed arm tackles and uses his tall frame to get extra yards after contact. Dropped some weight to better his footwork and speed. Works under center and in the shotgun.

Negatives: Must improve his footwork. His height makes him take long strides in his drop. Fails to step into his throws or square his shoulders at times, relies on his arm strength too often. Inconsistent accuracy from the pocket and throwing on the run. Needs to anticipate downfield throws better, sometimes getting the ball to his receiver a second early or late. Prone to turnovers, makes poor decisions trying to make plays that aren't there. Does not feel backside pressure. Lacks touch on shorter throws. Ball comes out of his hands poorly at times, negating his arm strength. Sometimes pats the ball before the throws. Loose with the ball in the pocket and as a runner. Doesn't move the pile as you'd expect in short-yardage situations, but his height allows him to be effective.

Compares To: JASON CAMPBELL, Washington -- Freeman is a bit bigger and has more bulk. Both came from programs that really did not highlight their athletic talents, but like the Redskins did with Campbell, a team will have to show patience. He has a great arm that can rival Matthew Stafford's but has to work on his delivery and release. With such a weak draft class at this position, he could be the third quarterback chosen in the first round. If Detroit trades down from the top spot, it is because they are convinced that Freeman will be around at number 20.

Les Broncos ayant perdu Cutler, je ne les vois pas tourner cette saison avec Orton ou Simms alors je parie sur le draft d'unQB.

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Maclin328x315spr08gm042008m

Height: 6-01/8 | Weight: 198 | 40-Time: 4.46

Strengths:
Outstanding athleticism...Is really smooth and fluid...Adequate height and bulk...Excellent speed...Great acceleration with a burst...Very quick and agile...Good hands and will make the difficult catch...Nice body control and ball skills...Good leaping ability...Elusive with great vision and instincts...A terror in space...Deep threat who will stretch the field vertically...Will work the middle of the field...Versatile and also an elite return man...Super productive...Still has a lot of potential.

Weaknesses:
Played in a spread offense...Not a polished route runner...Needs to get stronger...Will have some lapses in concentration...Won't break many tackles...Is not overly tough or physical...Gives good effort but isn't a great blocker...Durability is a concern...Only two years of experience.

Notes:
Entered the draft after his redshirt sophomore season...Did not play in 2006 after suffering a catastrophic right knee injury (Multiple Torn Ligaments and Partial Dislocation) in a 7-on-7 passing drill during the summer...Was a consensus 1st Team All-American as an all-purpose player in both 2007 and 2008...Led the nation in all-purpose yards in 2008, averaging 202.36 yards per game...Injured his ankle and left a game in 2008...Tweaked his knee at the Scouting Combine...Arguably top kick and punt returner in this draft...A dynamic playmaker who is a threat to take it the distance each and every time he touches the ball.

MessageSujet: Re: NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks   NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks EmptyJeu 9 Avr - 18:50

With the 20th pick of the NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select :

OLB, Brian Cushing, USC

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Brian%20Cushing

Outside Linebacker

6' 3" / 243 lbs.

USC

Senior

Strengths: versatile, Aggressiveness, Pass Rush, School

Weakness: Durability, Overaggressive, Performance Enhancers

The 2009 Senior Bowl was the perfect showcase for three Trojan linebackers and all three made the most of it. ILB Rey Maualuga, the trio’s headliner, Clay Matthews, who is a hybrid LB/DE, and Brian Cushing, who signed with USC as a strong safety but outgrew the position, all appear to be potential first round picks in April’s draft.

Cushing could prove to be the one with the longest career. He started as a true freshman and has played DE, SLB and MLB over his career, not to mention playing RB and TE in high school, and that versatility has really won him the respect of scouts and opponents alike. His statistics will not blow you away (73 tackles, 10.5 TFL, 3 sacks in 2008 as a starter) but he’s been a steady, consistent performer for USC and makes those around him better and vice versa.

One thing that has become obvious over the years, and especially in basketball, is that role players on great teams are not necessarily great players. The system, the coaching staff and the talent around them make them better. One example is Malik Rose, a huge part of the San Antonio Spurs first couple of NBA championships; he signed a monster contract with the Knicks I believe and he’s been a bench player ever since. I’m not saying that is the case with Cushing, but the talent around him has certainly played a large part in how good he looks on film.

Cushing is an aggressive, intense customer that does a great job of bringing his body through the ball carrier on tackles and has an intimidation factor along with Maualuga. He doesn’t hit to make a tackle; he hits because he likes too. The harder the better. His aggressiveness comes out when taking on blockers as well. Cushing combines athletic ability and upper body strength to fight off blocks and is never truly out of a play until the whistle blows. He played a little offense in high school and that has helped him become reliable in coverage. He can run with almost anyone and gets to the flats quickly to cover screens. He’s not above giving the TE a little extra just to say “you won’t outrun me and you won’t out-physical me”. As a pass rusher, Cushing is an effective blitzer from LB, closes quickly and looks to destroy the QB.

His injury history is worrisome. He seems like a player who will give a team around 13 games a year. They may be 13 great games, but teams will have to decide if 13 games out of 16 is worth a first round pick. Cushing separated a shoulder in 2005, sprained an ankle in 2007 and has had serious surgeries on his shoulder (2006) and knee (2007) during spring practices. He started all 13 games in 2008.

Other than a slight concern about how much the talent at USC made him look better than he may be and his lengthy injury history, his only other on field concern is a bit of over aggressiveness that will take him out of position on occasion. But some off-field issues have popped up in conjunction to Cushing. It has been reported that he spends upwards of $1,000 a month on nutritional supplements. It appears that fellow Draftdog writer Brian Dietzler may have hit close to the mark with his original write up of Cushing before the season started. There’s a big difference between supplements and steroids but what happens if he finds himself maxed out already?

Cushing is certainly in consideration for a mid- to late-first round pick but his history of injuries may keep him in the late 1st or push him into the second. Teams will have trouble overlooking a guy that can play all three LB spots, play a little defensive end and could be perfect for an elephant LB/S kind of role. He could do more in 13 games a year than some high picks do in a career

Career Statistics
Year GP Rec Yds YPC TD Analysis

Positives: Tight-skinned athlete with good overall musculature. Good quickness to the hole. Reads the defense and anticipates where the hole, including cutback lanes, will appear. Exceptional lateral quickness and elusiveness in tight quarters. Very rarely tackled by the first defender. Good acceleration past the initial wave of defense and into the secondary. Good spin and stiff arm, and has phenomenal leaping ability to jump over tacklers. Attacks the line of scrimmage and is a tougher interior runner than given credit for. Can drop his shoulders and has good leg drive. Runs through a lot of tackles due to his competitive drive and toughness. Keeps his legs churning and will spin away from tackles. Soft hands for the reception. Natural receiver who poses intriguing possibilities to be split out wide. Good quickness and effort as a route-runner; isn't just a threat on dump-offs in the flat or screens. Provides a pop in pass protection. Extreme competitor who can put the team on his shoulders. Wants the ball with the game on the line.

Negatives: Questionable top-end speed. Lacks the prototype size and bulk some teams are looking for in a bell-cow runner. A bit flashy, and will celebrate a bit too much after big plays.

C'est le choix que devrait faire les eagles si Wells est parti avant

With the 24th pick, the Atlanta Falcons select

PERIA JERRY, DT, from OLE MISS

NFL&NCAA Mock DRAFT 09 : les picks Periajerry_Senior_Bowl_South_Practice

Strengths:
Very good statistical production ... Outstanding agility and great change of direction ... Tough in a phone booth; will fight ... Collapses the pocket ... Strong hands and can re-direct ... Gives second effort ... Solid instincts ... Plays low to the ground ... Very athletic with a nice burst ... Grades out well with chase tackles ... Active ... Prototypical one-gap penetrator ... Big leader and team captain ... Clean off the field ... Alleged strong work ethic ... Nice Senior Bowl week ... Comes from football-family tree; nice genetics.

Weaknesses:
Can't get much bigger and does not carry weight well; can still improve upper body strength a bit ... Not versatile at nose tackle, 1-technique, or 5-technique ... Struggles against bigger linemen ... Overwhelmed against run occasionally ... Injury history.

Summary:
Jerry will be a very solid pick in the first round for some team that needs an active pass-rusher up the middle. There is a lot to like with this prospect, and in the right scheme he could be supremely productive.

Player Comparison:
Cory Redding. Redding is one of the most overlooked defensive tackles in the NFL, but he is a very athletic and active player with similar size.
