Mock Draft 2020 : Les picks

En attendant les dernières affectations, on va lancer les picks.

Les Tigrous on the clock

Pas trop de commentaires pour ce choix tellement il me semble évident.
Je vais être franc, en Novembre, je disais encore, "attention, le gars il a qu’un an comme titulaire, c’est quand même un peu léger pour en faire le numéro 1" (on en a connu des comme çà chez les Bengals...).
Mais après, y’a eu les Play-Offs et là, il m’a juste scotché. 12 TD lancés contre Oklahoma et Clemson et 2 au sol (parce que le gars sait courir quand il faut, et pas parce qu’il sait pas quoi faire d’autre - dédicace AFC Nord).
Et surtout, cette capacité à attendre et choisir la meilleur option, même avec la pression. Et la pression, il va l’avoir derrière la O-Line de Cincy donc autant avoir un QB qui sait la gérer sans s’affoler.
En plus, il a l’air d’avoir la tête sur les épaules, sûr de lui mais à priori, pas le melon. Un leader.
Donc, aucune hésitation. Quand on veut reconstruire, on démarre par un QB. Quand on a la « chance » de drafter en 1 la saison où on a le Heishman et Champion NCAA, on le laisse pas passer.

Profile:
Elite size, length and athleticism created loads of production and a vaulted pro projection, but Young's set of disruptive properties have yet to be fully weaponized. He's fairly basic as a pass rusher, with just a couple of go-to moves and an occasional inside counter, and yet he still managed 16.5 sacks in 2019. He has the traits to overwhelm many of the tackles he faces, and it won't take long for teams to add a bull-rush, a rip-and-run and a stab counter into his repertoire. He plays a little upright at the point of attack, and his ball awareness is below average, but those concerns aren't enough to counterbalance his range and agility as a run defender. Young possesses superior traits and the ability to wreck and alter offensive game-plans as a perennial All-Pro.

Analyse:
Toute mock draft qui laisserait sous-entendre que Young peut passer ce pick ne mérite aucune lecture. Young est un monstre, qui en plus ne demande qu'à être poli. En face, on a Washington, qui ne draftera pas de QB et qui a un HC défensif qui va kiffer comme pas possible d'avoir un tel joueur pour les années qui viennent. Et si besoin ils drafteront un QB l'année prochaine si Hawkins ne fait pas le boulot...

With the 3rd pick, the Detroit Lions select :

DL Derrick Brown (Auburn)





Je vois dans les mocks souvent CB Okudah ou OLB Simmons.

Certes la défense a été mauvaise à Detroit l'an dernier, notamment le tertaire, mais les Lions ont Trufant et Robinson qui sont pas dégueux en DB.
Ils ont tradé S Duran Harmon, que Patricia connaît bien et devrait aider dans son système.

Une bonne solution pour aider le tertiaire, c'est aussi d'avoir un bon front-7, et à ce niveau Detroit est léger, à part DE Flowers recruté à prix d'or chez les Pats, de plus Detroit a perdu ses 2 DT titulaires.

Je pense donc que les Lions ont une bonne probabilité de trade down et de récupérer un bon défenseur.

J'irais en premier sur le DL Derrick Brown qui va aider la DL, on pourrait même imaginer un EDGE Chaisson ou Gross-Matos, mais ca serait un peu des reachs à ce niveau mais peut être pas avec un trade down (Un trade down avec les Jags #9 et 20 contre le #3)

Profile:
Right tackle with elite body type and freaky testing potential who might fall victim to elevated expectations based upon traits and Iowa pedigree. He has tremendous core strength and moves smoothly, over-sets and isn't the explosive drive-blocker former Iowa star tackle Brandon Scherff was. Wirfs has tools to handle gap-blocking duties while thriving in outside zone. If Wirfs can learn to play inside out and add a more effective jump-set into his repertoire, he could take a big step forward. Consistency of play could take some time, but he has the ability to become a good starter at either right tackle or guard.

Analyse:
Honnêtement, j'ai regardé et la chute de Okudah me pose question... Mais les Giants ont fait trop de m**** sur l'OL ces dernières années et a vraiment besoin de drafter un bon OT pour Jones. Wilfs sort comme le prospect le plus solide, je vois Becton sortir plus tard mais il me fait peur. Wilfs, c'est le pick propre

With the 5th pick, the Miami Docsphins select:

Jerry Jeudy, WR, Bama



Profile: Mixes tight, crisp route-running with impressive top-end speed to keep secondaries on eggshells throughout the game. Jeudy is high-cut and a little leggy in his press release and short-area movements, but fluid hips and above-average agility prevent any stagnation. He's a linear route specialist with a great feel for leveraging and then stemming defenders away from his food on intermediate and deep passes. The hands need work and contested catches will be much more challenging against bigger, faster matchups across from him. Jeudy can play inside or outside but offers a unique ability to both widen or lengthen the field from the slot. His transition from deep threat to volume target in 2019 should help sell teams on his ability to become a pro-Bowl caliber WR1 who can help his offense on all three levels.

Le pourquoi du comment: Sélectionné uniquement sur la base de son prénom. Quand on porte le même prénom que Jerry MacGuire ou Jerry Mouse, on est bien dans ma tête. Blague à part, ils ont un stop gap au poste de QB. Ils ont Josh Rosen (pour l'instant) derrière, qui n'est pas un mauvais QB (pour l'instant). Ils ont pas mal recruté en FA. Il ont besoin de fire power pour coloniser la AFC East.

With the 6th pick, the California Chargers select:

CeeDee Lamb, WR, Losers



Profile: Explosive, three-level playmaker and vital cog in one of the most potent offensive machines in college football over the last three seasons. Lamb uses speed and separation quickness to dominate competition in a scheme that frequently created open throws in space. His routes will need to become more efficient and crisp to beat man-to-man coverage against NFL size and speed, but his ball skills and explosiveness with the ball in his hand should allow teams to scheme him into explosive opportunities right away. Lamb has the potential to play any of the three receiver positions as a pro and should benefit greatly from the NFL's continued movement toward college-style passing attacks.

Le pourquoi du comment: Les Chargers arrivent à LA dans leur nouveau stade en collocation. Je prévois qu'ils signent Cam Newton quand ils pourront lui faire passer un physical. LA c'est la ville de l'entertainment et il faut du STAR POWER. Il faut lutter contre Lebron James pour avoir l'attention du public. Un duo Cam Newton et CeeDee Lamb, ça a de la gueule, et on les appellera les CC flingueurs.

Avec le 7ème pick


Après les 2 WR, j'ai été tenté de choisir un QB ici mais je vais rester dans la logique.
Si Simmons descend jusque là, ce serait déjà une aubaine pour les Patnhers.
Le profil n'est pas celui de Kuechly, mais il est comparé à Darius Leonard. Associé à Shaq Thompson, çà pourrait faire des étincelles dans la défense de Carolina.

With the 8th pick, The Arizona Cardinals select :

OT Jedrick Wills (Alabama)



Overview
Wills falls below the height/length norm for tackles, but his quick, well-timed punches and varied approach prevent defenders from finding rush rhythms and using length against him. Agility and body control allow him to handle move-blocking duties successfully, but his leverage and elite transference of power from hips to his hands provide a big advantage as a body mover at the point of attack. His desire to control each snap occasionally leads to over-sets and lunging in an effort to stay ahead of opponents. Wills is one of the most impressive tackles in the draft; he has basketball-caliber foot quickness and the quick hands of a boxer, and all of it is wrapped in a stout, powerful package of bad intentions. His game is tailor-made for the NFL, and his range of success is good starter to All-Pro.


Avec le trade de WR Hopkins, RB Drake et le pick de QB Murray en 1st overall, les Cardinals se tournent vers l'attaque, ils vont aider en renforçant ma OL

Je pense que ça n'arrivera jamais, mais Tua peut pas descendre et je vois les jags signer Cam, donc un QB s'impose ici.

With the 10th pick, the Cleveland Browns select:

Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville



Profile: Enormous frame complemented by surprisingly nimble feet and functional athleticism to handle either tackle spot. Becton's combination of movement and force should allow him to fit easily into all running schemes, but he needs to play with better patience in order to control and redirect all that mass into centered blocks in both run and pass. His technique and set-up are better than expected in pass pro, while his size and length allow him to recover and redirect both inside and outside rushes. With all really big prospects, weight and quickness will be concerns, but Becton's areas of concern are correctable or manageable if he's disciplined enough to prioritize them. He has the potential to be a good starter on either side, but the weight creates an obvious low-floor scenario.

Le pourquoi du comment: Sur le papier, les Browns sont une bonne équipe. Ils ont des skill players et tout. Maintenant pour que cet investissement paie, il faut renforcer la ligne.

With the 11th pick, the New York Jets select:

Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama




Strengths:
Almost always the fastest person on the field (4.27 40 time!!)
Can score on short, intermediate, deep routes
Only dropped one ball in 2019; tough YAC runner
Weaknesses:
Needs to improve as a route running
Will need to prove he can routinely beat press man.

Why : The Jets had one of the most feeble passing attacks in the league, which can largely be attributed to a severe shortage of playmakers. It’s time to give young quarterback Sam Darnold some more help and there will be plenty of options since wide receiver figures to be the strongest position in this class. In fact, many feel this crop of pass catchers could go down as one of the best of all time. Despite that tremendous depth there isn’t a Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green or Julio Jones level elite talent at the very top, but rather a three-way battle to be the first off the board.

D'après Walterfootball:

Okudah is a well-rounded prospect who does everything well. He is very good at preventing separation as he can vertically stay with speed wideouts and run the routes with receivers. Okudah has the size and physicality to match up with big wideouts with the speed to defend the vertical threats. With his aggressive and physical style of play, Okudah sits on routes and really challenges receivers to run by him.

Downfield, Okudah is a tough defender who uses his length to cover up wide receivers, has the speed to run with them, and possesses a burst for recoverability. He can jam receivers yet has the ability turn and run with them downfield. Over the past couple of seasons, Okudah did a very good job of slapping passes away, and as a junior in 2019, he showed improvement by producing some interceptions. Okudah is a good tackler and willing run defender who does not hesitate to close on a ball-carrier to make a hit in space.

For the NFL, Okudah looks like a future No. 1 cornerback and Pro Bowler. He could be one of the top corners in the league during his career and capable of limiting elite No. 1 receivers. Okudah is worthy of being a high first-round pick, and this analyst thinks that Okudah is a better prospect entering the NFL than Jalen Ramsey (2016) and Denzel Ward (2018) were, and they were both top-five picks in their draft classes.


Explication: Okudah est probablement un top 5 et surement un top 10.  Là, on est déjà en 12 et ô miracle c'est pile poil sur un énorme besoin des Raiders. En plus, la signature d'Eli Apple a capoté. Si ça arrive, je pense que Gruden va s'inscrire sur le forum.

Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina
Height: 6-5. Weight: 315. Arm: 34.5. Hand: 10.13.



Strengths:
Elite pass rusher despite size
Has strength to overpower blockers and collapse pocket
Has size/athleticism to play anywhere along D-line

Weaknesses:
Needs to add more pass-rush moves
Can sometimes get to upright in pass rush
Needs to be better with hand usage/placement

Why :
J'ai beaucoup hésité à prendre un CB mais la ligne défensive semble être en reconstruction suite aux pertes de Buckner et de Day.

With the 14th pick, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select :

OT Andrew Thomas (Georgia)



Overview
Three-year starter and current bellcow of a line that is a consistent front-runner for the Joe Moore Award. He's played both tackle spots but may get first crack at playing on the left side, due to the dearth of talent there. Thomas is a gritty player with above-average recovery talent to "get the job done" when his process breaks down. He's a Day 1 starter who comes in well-coached and technically savvy, but occasional leaning, lunging and inconsistent knee bend in pass pro could be isolated and attacked by pass-rush wolves looking to feast if he doesn't get those areas cleaned up.


Pour une équipe à 7-9, je trouve qu'il n'y a pas tellement de trous dans l'équipe.

L'un des points faibles ces dernières années a été la OL.
La pass-protection est correcte, mais le running game est catastrophique.

Le départ de OT Dotson ouvre la porte à un recrutement, et la protection de Brady sera une priorité.

Parmi les postes à améliorer, il y a OT, RB et S

On peut trouver de bons RB au 2è tour, et on a investi énormément de picks sur le tertiaire ces dernières années.

Un DL est une possibilité aussi pour préparer l'après Suh ou upgrader Gholston, mais on est en mode win-now

Has size and speed NFL teams look for in elite CBs
Great mirroring technique
Doesn't panic because he has recovery speed

Weaknesses:
Needs to improve tackling
Played better in 2018 than 2019

Why :  Ne pas avoir resigner Chris Harris Jr pourrait être une indication pour drafter le 2eme CB de la draft... ça pourrait aller aussi vers un WR...

With the 16th pick, the Atlanta Falcons select:

K'Lavon Chaisson, Edge, LSU



Profile: Possessing an impressive diversity of moldable pass-rushing ingredients and moves, Chaisson has begun putting the recipe together to become a game-altering pass rusher. While some long-limbed rushers lack the bend and leverage to maximize their length, his fluidity and agility allow him to dip, corner, change direction and close in tight quarters or with extended range. He's not a physical run defender and might be a liability early in his career against power. Chaisson's stock has gained momentum with his surging performance matching the elite athletic qualities. It adds up to an increasingly confident projection as an impact pass-rusher with Pro-Bowl potential.

Le pourquoi du comment: En attaque, l’équipe ira aussi loin que Matt Ryan les emmenera. En défense, il y’a quelques ajouts mais ça reste très moyen. On va donc leur donner un pass rusher qui améliorera la défense.

Overview
Ascending safety prospect offering a combination of plus athleticism, field awareness and versatility. McKinney split time equally at slot, free safety and in the box and is accomplished in each. His coverage instincts, athleticism and quick-twitch burst are more cornerback than safety, which is why he's likely to be a coveted toy for teams looking to upgrade and diversify their sub-packages. He can sit in center field all day if needed, and he's an adequate open-field tackler but has room for improvement in that area. McKinney represents the new breed of versatile, matchup safety with high upside as an early starter.

Analysis:
Scénario pas génial pour les Cowboys, qui voient 2 prospects magnifiques pour eux partir en 15 et 16. Dans ce scénario, on peut soit aller chercher Fulton en CB, soit prendre McKinney. En terme de value, je pense qu'il n'y a pas photo avec McKinney, surtout qu'il y aura encore de bons CB en #2, et que cette draft manque de S convaincants passés les premiers prospects. En safety, on pourrait aller vers Delpit, mais je pense Fulton plus adapté à la NFL et ce que les Cowboys voudront en faire.

With the 18th pick, the Miami Docsphins select:

Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon



Profile: Big, talented full-field scanner able to find the right read and sling it around the yard from the pocket or on the move. Herbert rushed throws in 2018, but he showed marked improvement in that area, excluding the Auburn opener. He trusts his protection while working through coverages and route development and has big-boy arm talent and drive velocity to stress and impress defenses. He's confident attacking downfield, but touch throws evade him and may have created tentativeness with certain short and intermediate throws. Ball placement requires additional emphasis, but upgrading to NFL skill talent could help him bloom. Herbert has a high ceiling and is the most physically gifted quarterback in the draft, but he doesn't have as many "wow" plays as expected for someone with his traits, experience and potential.

Le pourquoi du comment: Ca se déroule comme je l’avais planifié. Premier choix avec probablement la meilleure arme de cette draft. Et maintenant un QB qui est aussi probablement le meilleur pure passer de cette draft (d’un point de vue technique).

D'après Draftnetwork:  "PROS: He’s an animal playing forward. Confidently drives on the football in click and close situations and he has a quick trigger when attacking downhill against the run, especially when lined up in the box. Incredibly versatile with upside in man and zone coverage. Has strong pattern mirroring skills from the slot and his length really shows up when closing on the ball against quick game. Definitely checks the box with his ball skills - he’s sound a securing takeaways and disrupting at the catch point. Always punching/raking at the football to try and separate it from the ball carrier. Showcases good range to cover ground and close down distances. Has proven to be an effective blitzer with good timing, physicality and effort. Very intelligent player who processes quickly and always finds himself around the football. Became a much more consistent tackler in 2019, arriving under better control, aiming low and wrapping up. Hitting power and contact balance are excellent. Love his ability to navigate through tight quarters and knife through traffic in pursuit. Quick feet, smooth and athletic for his size. Can lineup virtually anywhere in the back seven.

CONS: While 2019 was better, it’s still difficult to forget about all the whiffs in 2018 that carried over a bit although much improved. Can be a touch loose with zone coverage spacing and he needs to be more consistent trusting his landmarks. "



Explication:  Le plan de draft était de sortir avec un WR avec l'un des 2 choix du 1er tour.  Mais la razzia des WRs sur les tours précédents fait que les autres ne me conviennent pas pour un 19eme choix.

Gruden a toutes les excuses du monde pour militer vers un retour vers le passé: All D !

J'étais à deux droit de drafter le DL Gallimore mais comme il est canadien, j'ai flippé par rapport à Céline Dion.

Alors je me suis rabattu sur Delpit qui, après la Draft d'Okudah, devrait former une secondary taillée pour faire chier Mahomes et ses copains pendant les années à venir.

J'ai hésité avec Delpit, finalement pas besoin de me poser de question.
Depuis le départ de Ramsey, les jaguars ont besoin d'un corner.
Gladney a toutes les qualités pour devenir titulaire.
A priori excellent plaquer, il a aussi la vitesse nécessaire au poste.

Overview
A quarterback's best friend, with the contested-catch focus and extreme ball skills to boost completion percentages. Jefferson failed to stand out as an outside target but saw his stock soar with a monster season from the slot. He has decent speed and separation talent, but he needs to improve as a route-runner, as he's less likely to see the same freedom in space that LSU's offense helped create for him. He's slippery in space and able to stab and save throws with quick hands and fluid body adjustments. Teams looking for an inside/outside possession receiver with the size and savvy to make chain-moving catches could push Jefferson up the board.

Analysis:
Je n'aime pas la config actuelle des Eagles entre leurs needs et le pick #21: L'énorme need est en WR, mais on se satisferait bien d'un CB ou d'un EDGE dans une moindre mesure. Or, la plupart des mocks arrivent au même résultat que la nôtre, avec un creux sur ces 3 postes. Sans trade (up pour choper un des top 3 ou down pour laisser passer le creux), le choix le plus évident est Jefferson. On a un besoin tellement énorme qu'un receveur "poli" comme lui fera un bien fou. En gros, un receveur polyvalent qui pourra grandir avec Wentz. Le problème, c'est que c'est un slot, alors qu'on a deux excellents TE. On a besoin d'un "field stretcher". Ce pick, c'est un peu le pari qu'avec un tel profil, Jefferson saura faire le job, sachant qu'il a couru le 40YD en 4.45. Et on draftera un speedster plus tard, peut-être même dès le 2ème round.

Avec le Pick 22



On continue avec un joueur de LSU.
Pour les Vikings avec les pertes de Waynes et Rhodes, le poste de Corner est sinistré chez les Vikings, l'opportunité de drafter le meilleur CB avant Combine serait une aubaine.

Même s'il a glissé dans les classements, Fulton reste un excellent corner. Comparé à AJ Bouye.
Il a le physique et la technique pour devenir un shutdown Corner de premier plan en NFL.
Il est excellent en couverture mais pêche au niveau des plaquages. Avec du travail, ce défaut se gommera (surtout avec un Coach comme Zimmer)

With the 23th pick, The New England Patriots select :
LB Zack Baun (Wisconsin)



Overview
Ascending prospect whose explosive production on the field has begun to mirror his explosive athletic traits. Baun's twitchy get-off and deep bend at the edge is nightmare fuel for Big Ten tackles and he's still at the early stages of pass rush development. He is aggressive to flow downhill in run support, has sideline-to-sideline range and is fluid dropping into coverage. He's strong but a little light as an edge-setter so teams will need to figure out how best to align him. Baun is a scheme-diverse linebacker with high-impact potential whose best days are ahead of him.


Les Patriots pourraient aller dans plein de directions QB, TE, DT et LB principalement.

Mais je vais sur les LB suite aux départs de Collins et Van Noy, et Hightower qui n'est plus tout jeune.

Baun est un LB qui peut jouer un peu tout les postes et qui se rapproche de Van Noy, qui a eu un bel impact dans le schéma des Pats

With the 24th pick, The New Orleans Saints select :
DT Justin Madubuike (Texas A&M)



Overview
Undersized early-entry defensive tackle who lacks NFL mass but gets wins with leverage, strength and quickness. Madubuike played in front of blockers in college but is more likely to be schemed as a moving target whose quickness and athletic ability can benefit him. He's not overly explosive off the snap, so getting on top of blockers with quickness could be the difference between surviving and thriving. Madubuike projects as a rotational one-gapping tackle with upward mobility, but the floor is a little lower, due to size and scheme limitations.


Les Saints n'ont pas beaucoup de besoin, la position de DT étant peut-être la moins bien fourni, mais en 24, personne ne me satisfait vraiment, donc, je ne serais pas étonné de les voir monter dans la draft, pour avoir un joueur plus impactant, surtout si c'est la dernière année de Brees.
